Colonials Picked to Win 2011 A-10 Conference Men's Tennis Title
Jan. 24, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC -GW and Xavier are the favorites to win the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championships in voting conducted by the league's head coaches, the Conference announced on Monday. "There are at least eight teams in Conference that can pull off an upset at any time," said head coach Greg Munoz. "When you are picked to be No.1, you have a target on your back. We need to be mentally prepared for the added pressure." The Colonials kicked off the 2011 season this past weekend at the Harvard Winter Classic, taking on players from nationally-ranked (No. 64) Harvard and Marist. GW will take on nationally-ranked (No. 75) Maryland in College Park, MD, Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Senior co-captains and 2010 A-10 All-Conference team selections, Erik Hannah and Christopher Kushma lead the Colonials after having strong fall tournament appearances. Hannah teamed up with junior Ugur Atalay in fall doubles action, and gained more experience at ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships and the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships. GW has six A-10 foes on this seasons schedule starting with Temple, Feb. 12, in Philadelphia. The Colonials head north again to Pittsburgh, PA, to take on Xavier and Duquesne in back-to-back matches on Feb. 19 and 20. GW also plays Charlotte on the road in late February. In March, the Colonials have Richmond and Saint Joseph's on the slate. The 2011 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship is April 15-17, at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, MO.
