WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University freshman Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN/St. Paul Academy) was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for his stellar play in the Colonials' two matches this past weekend, the conference office announced on Monday, Jan. 31. Salyer, who helped the Colonials finish 1-1 last week, is the first GW men's tennis player to be honored this year by the A-10.

GW blanked James Madison, 7-0, on Saturday for its second dual-match victory of the season, before falling to American on Sunday, 5-2. Sophomore Gordon Daniels (Hilton Head, SC/Heritage Academy) teamed with Salyer at No. 2 doubles and the pair went on to defeat Brian Clay and Carlin Campbell of JMU, 9-8 (11-9), and Juancarlo Vazquez and Jason Harris of American, 9-8 (7-5), to improve to 2-2 in dual-match contests.

In singles play, Salyer topped JMU's Don Davidson, 6-2, 6-4, for his first victory of the season at the No. 6 spot as he helped the Colonials cruise to victory.

GW (2-2) returns to action when it hosts Howard on Friday, Feb. 4, at 12:30 p.m. at the Montclair Country Club in Montclair, VA.
