Jan. 31, 2018

SERVING FIRST: After opening the 2018 season against a tough slate of opponents out west in California, the George Washington men’s tennis team returns home to host Middle Tennessee State at the Trump National Golf Course on Friday at 10 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials opened their spring slate against some of the toughest teams they will face this season. In back-to-back action on January 20, GW fell to No. 13 Stanford (7-0) and then to the University of San Francisco (4-0). The next day, the Colonials closed out their west-coast trip with a 7-0 loss to Pacific. Chris Reynolds took one set in the No. 1 position, battling Tadiwa Chinamo 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

ABOUT MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE: The Blue Raiders travel to Washington, D.C. coming off of a four-match win streak, defeating Conference USA foe UTSA (5-2) and in-state opponent TSU (7-0) on Sunday. Middle Tennessee State swept doubles action in both matches and finished the weekend with a 10-2 mark in singles play.

SERIES HISTORY: The Blue Raiders edged the Colonials, 4-3, last season. Then-junior Chris Fletcher claimed his first singles win over a ranked opponent to help GW mount a resurgence from a 3-0 deficit to tie the match at 3-3, but the Blue Raiders won the final singles bout to take the victory.
