NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington men's tennis freshman Julius Tverijonas was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie Performer of the Week after helping the Colonials pick up their first win of the 2014 season.

Tverijonas earns his first weekly league accolade after he went undefeated in singles and doubles to help lift GW (1-2) to a 4-3 win at St. John's on Sunday evening. The rookie first teamed up with junior Francisco Dias at No. 1 doubles and the pair took care of the Red Storm's RJ Del Nunzio and Vaidik Munshaw, 6-1. He then earned a No. 3 singles victory, 6-5, 6-1, over Robert Levi in the only singles match that was decided in straight sets.

The Siauliai, Lithuania product joined the Buff and Blue in January and is 2-1 in singles on the young season while he and Dias are 2-1 in first-flight doubles play.

Tverijonas and GW return to the court this weekend at the three-day ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H.
