Colonials Lose Season Opener Against Monarchs

WASHINGTON, DC (February 3) - Men's tennis stuggled against a strong Old Dominion team, only managing to only take one match on the day.

Freshman Matt Hane was the sole bright spot for the Colonials who fought the Monarchs the entire day, but were unable to win two close matches in singles play. The nationally ranked freshman topped ODU¹s Rodrigo Laender after winning the tie-breaker in the first set. Hane easily won the second set to collect his first collegiate win.

In other singles action, junior Kevin Wright lost a tie-breaker in the first set of his match against ODU¹s Calin Miilos 6-7(3), and was unable to regroup in the second set, losing 1-6. sophomore Mike Melen won his first set against ODU¹s Patrick Binokowski in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4) only to lose in three sets 3-6, 4-10).

The Colonials (0-1) next return to their home venue, the Montclair Country Club, to face local rival James Madison on February 3rd.
