Feb. 21, 2018

SERVING FIRST: The George Washington men’s tennis team is set to open Atlantic 10 Conference play on Saturday when it travels to Richmond to face VCU at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials closed their four consecutive road contests in Iowa on Sunday with a 4-3 loss to Omaha. GW clinched the doubles point with the duos of Chris Reynolds and Jakub Behun and Chris Fletcher and Christos Hadjigeorgiou both earning victories for the Buff and Blue. In singles play, Hadjigeorgiou earned a win at No. 3 and Behun came up on top at No. 4, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Omaha.

ABOUT VCU: The Rams six-match win streak to open the 2018 season was snapped over the weekend with losses to Louisiana, 4-3, and N.C. State, 5-2. Inigo Torre Martin and Arvid Noren lead with team with undefeated 6-0 singles records.

SERIES HISTORY: The Colonials last met the Rams in the semifinal round of last season’s Atlantic 10 Championships. The second-seeded Colonials had an early lead after doubles play, but third-seeded VCU took four singles matches to edge GW, 4-3, and advance to the final.
