Men's Tennis Opens Play in Florida on Tuesday

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis squad will begin a four-match spring break road trip on Tuesday at Florida Atlantic. The Colonials will then face Connecticut and No. 29 South Alabama in doubleheader action on Wednesday before wrapping the week on Thursday at Florida Gulf Coast.

The Colonials (9-4) have won their last four matches, most recently downing Navy and St. John's on March 4-5. Junior Chris Fletcher and freshman Dennis Afanasev swept Atlantic 10 weekly awards after their performances. Fletcher leads the Colonials with a dominant 10-1 singles record this spring playing at the Nos. 2-3 positions. Afanasev owns a 7-2 solo mark, competing in the Nos. 4-6 spots.

FAU (9-4) has fallen in three of its last four contests and will host GW as the first part of a doubleheader with UConn.

UConn (5-6) has won three of its last four and will take on Florida Atlantic before facing the Colonials on Wednesday.

Nationally ranked No. 29 South Alabama (16-3) saw its 15-match win streak snapped on Sunday by UCF. Tuki Jacobs enters the week ranked No. 82 in singles with a 13-2 solo record this spring.

FGCU (4-5) most recently fell to ETSU and will take on South Alabama before hosting the Colonials on Thursday.
