GW's Jake Jopling Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

March 18, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - Freshman Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA/N. Allegheny) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week, the league office has announced.

Jopling won both of his singles matches and both doubles matches last week. He defeated Scott Sans Leeb of Massachusetts (6-3, 6-3) and Howard's Lorant Fuezesi (7-5, 6-4) at No. 3 singles last week as the Colonials defeated the Minutemen, 7-0, and the Bison, 4-3, to improve to 9-6 in the spring. He teamed with sophomore Matt Hane to win a pair of doubles matches over the team of Champeau/Prisco of UMass (8-5) and the Howard team of Pagon/J. Thomas (8-6) at No. 1 doubles.

Jopling improved his singles record to 4-8 on the season playing at No. 2 and No. 3. He is 7-5 this season at No. 1 doubles.

The Colonials host Fordham on Saturday, Mar. 23, at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility, 2100 Foxhall Road, NW. That match begins at noon.
