WASHINGTON – The George Washington men’s tennis team has earned a No. 54 national team ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the governing body released on Tuesday.

The ranking is the highest of the season for the Colonials (8-5), who are 4-4 against top-70 competition after recently knocking off No. 62 Louisiana and No. 66 Tulane during their Spring Break trip through Louisiana last week.

GW is currently on a four-match winning streak against its nationally ranked foes dating back to Feb. 28, which also includes victories over No. 70 Charlotte and No. 60 UNC Wilmington. The Buff and Blue entered 2014 with a No. 74 ranking after closing 2013 at No. 73 for the first time in program history. They then catapulted to the No. 55 spot two weeks ago.

The Colonials have won seven of their last eight matches, all of which were on the road, and went 3-1 in their last four matches over a one-week span.

GW opens outdoor home action at the newly renovated GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus on Saturday, March 22, when the squad welcomes Morgan State for a 3 p.m. match. The Colonials then head to nearby UMBC on Sunday for a 1 p.m. bout in Baltimore.
