March 21, 2017

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW men's tennis' Julius Tverijonas has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Tverijonas helped the Colonials to a 3-1 week, including a victory over No. 38 South Alabama during a spring break road trip to Florida.

The senior went a perfect 3-0 in singles action, competing exclusively at the top position. Tverijonas upset the nation's No. 82-ranked solo player from South Alabama, Tuki Jacobs, in a come-from-behind, three-set victory to help GW solidify the 4-3 triumph. The Siauliai, Lithuania, native also downed his Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast opponents in straight sets to wrap his week of singles action.

In doubles play, Tverijonas took top-flight wins over Connecticut and FGCU.

The A-10 honor marks the second of the season for Tverijonas.
