NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington freshman Danil Zelenkov has been named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Rookie Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Zelenkov went undefeated at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles to help the Colonials claim their third straight victory and 10thof the season with a convincing 6-1 win over local foe George Mason on Saturday.

The weekly award marks the fourth for the Skopje, Macedonia product, which is the most by any freshman in the A-10. Zelenkov was also tabbed the league’s Rookie Performer of the Week on Feb. 5, March 6 and March 26.

On Saturday, Zelenkov teamed with No. 2 doubles partner junior Nikita Fomin to earn a 9-7 victory over GMU’s Jimmy Davis and Scott Keaton. Competing at No. 2 singles, Zelenkov nearly held the Patriots’ Tanner Baine scoreless, limiting Baine to just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win.

Zelenkov and GW – which is ranked No. 68 nationally in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll – return to the court on Saturday, April 6 when they welcome St. John’s to the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus for a 1 p.m. contest. Seniors Leonardo Lapentti and Alexander van Gils will be honored prior to their final home match.
