NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The George Washington men's tennis team has been awarded its fourth-straight No. 1 seed for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship, which opens this Friday, April 14, at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, MO. With the top seeding, the Colonials will have a first-round bye and wait to take on the winner of the Nos. 8-9 match-up between Saint Joseph's and Dayton at 2:00 pm Friday.

"We work hard throughout the year and compete strongly in the regular season," said head coach Greg Munoz. "We went undefeated and this team deserves its seeding. We hope we can follow through with that this weekend."

The Colonials finished the regular season with a 6-1 victory over Georgetown, on Sunday, April 9, for their 13th victory of the season. GW, which was the preseason coaches favorite to win the 2011 league title, posted a 6-0 record against A-10 opponents faced this season.

GW is headlined by seniors Erik Hannah, Christopher Kushma and Yan Levinski, and junior Ugur Atalay, all of them earned A-10 All-Conference Team honors last spring. Adding to GW's depth in the top-6 is junior returner Richard Blumenfeld, sophomore transfer Alexander van Gils and freshmen Viktor Svensson and Ulrik Thomsen.

"Depth is such an important factor in winning championships," said Munoz. "We are going into the A-10's with eight players who could easily play top-6. All of them will see action this weekend and not out of necessity as in years past, but because they can win. We are going into the tournament healthy and ready to compete."
