Men's Tennis Places Three on Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington senior Mustafa Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Ayazaga Isik) and freshmen Erik Hannah (Bradenton, FL/Bradenton Academy) and Yan Levinski (Melbourne, Australia/Brighton Grammar School) have been named to the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis All-Conference Team in voting conducted by the Conference's head coaches, the league announced Thursday.
In the same voting, Levinski was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer while senior Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN/St. Paul Academy) was named to both the All-Conference second-team and the Academic All-Conference team. Salyer was also selected as the Student-Athlete of the Year, in a separate vote done by the Conference's sports information directors.
Levinski, a freshman from Melbourne, Australia, garnered Most Outstanding Rookie honors after winning all three of his doubles matches at the A-10 Championships, where he was paired with teammate Salyer. The duo posted second flight wins against Rhode Island (8-2), St. Bonaventure (8-3) and Xavier (8-6). Overall this season, Levinski, who was named A-10 Rookie of the Week Mar. 24, was 14-5 in singles, while posting a 7-1 record in the A-10.
Gencsoy, a four-time All-Conference team selection, led GW this year as their No. 1 player, and finished with a 23-6 mark overall in singles play, including 9-1 in conference. The two-time A-10 Performer of the Week (Feb. 18 and Mar. 24), won 12 of his final 14 finished matches, and went 2-1 at the A-10 Championships, with his only loss coming to Xavier's Doug Matthews, the Conference's Most Outstanding Performer, in the title match (4-6, 6-3, 4-6). Gencsoy finished his GW career with a 59-25 overall mark in singles play.

Joining Gencsoy on the All-Conference Team are freshmen Erik Hannah and Yan Levinski. Hannah, the team's MVP this season, was tied for second on the club with 17 wins in singles action was a perfect 9-0 in the league. He won both of his individual matches that were completed at the A-10 Championships, in straight sets.
Salyer, a senior, was named the Student-Athlete of the Year after finishing the season with a 17-13 overall singles mark, which included three doubles wins and one singles victory from the third flight in the A-10 Championship. The American studies major won 11 of his final 17 matches of the season. Salyer's inclusion on the Academic All-Conference team marks the third straight year that he has earned that honor.
Gencsoy joins Matt Hane (2001-04) and Matt Treadgold (2002-05) as the only players in GW men's tennis history to earn All-Conference honors four consecutive years, while Levinski becomes just the fourth Colonial in the program's history to be recognized by the Conference as the top rookie. Yuval Karutzy was named A-10 Freshman of the Year in 1993, while Matt Hane was A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer in 2001, with Gencsoy winning the award in 2005.
In Thursday's voting, Xavier junior Doug Matthews was named the Most Outstanding Performer. The Musketeers' Eric Toth was named Coach of the Year after guiding Xavier to its first-ever A-10 men's tennis title and a subsequent automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It was just Toth's first season as head coach for Xavier after 10 seasons as an assistant.
