WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University seniors Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA) and Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY), and freshman Mustafa Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey) have each been named to the 2005 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Tuesday, April 19. In addition, Gencsoy became just the third Colonial since 1992 to earn conference Most Outstanding Rookie Performer of the Year honors, while Treadgold also garnered academic all-conference accolades for the second consecutive year.
For Treadgold, who finished 17-8 overall in singles play, the all-conference honor marks his fourth straight, while Jopling is on the prestigious team for the second straight season. Gencsoy, meanwhile, was one of two freshman on the 12-man team dominated by eight seniors.
GW, along with Richmond and St. Bonaventure, had the most representatives on the squad with three apiece, and it marks the second consecutive year in which the Colonials had three members on the team. Jopling, Treadgold and Gencsoy combined to record 24 dual-match singles victories this season to help the Colonials finish 10-10 overall, including a fifth-place finish at the A-10 Championships, where they won three of four matches.
Both Gencsoy, who went 12-5 in singles play during the year, and Treadgold finished undefeated in singles action at the 2005 A-10 Championships, while Jopling posted a 2-1 mark. For their respective careers, Treadgold compiled a 63-24 singles record while Jopling posted 49 victories in his career.
