Men's Tennis Receives GW Men's Team Academic Excellence Award
April 29, 2010
WASHINGTON, DC- At The George Washington University annual Senior Honors Luncheon held on April 29, the men's tennis team was the recipient of the 2010 Colonial Endowment Academic Excellence Award, with a combined grade-point average of 3.45. Of GW's 10 men's sports, the tennis team had the highest average GPA based on the Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 semesters. Under fourth-year coach Greg Munoz, eight of the squad's players recorded a GPA above 3.0, including five with a 3.5 or better. Also honored at the event was men's tennis 2009-10 Most Valuable Player junior Erik Hannah. A co-captain, Hannah has been vital to the men's tennis program's continued growth and success. He and teammate Ugur Atalay began 2010 as the 29th ranked doubles pair in the nation and went on to lead GW with seven doubles victories. This spring, he capped the season with a five-match winning streak and finished 13-7 overall in singles play, including a perfect 6-0 mark against Atlantic 10 opponents. Hannah was a second team all-conference selection last spring.
