Senior Duo Earns All-Conference Honors for Men’s Tennis
Reynolds earns First Team honors; Fletcher lands on Second Team
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.– Two Colonials have landed Atlantic 10 men’s tennis All-Conference honors for the 2018 season, the league announced on Tuesday. Senior Chris Reynolds garned First Team honors, while fellow senior Chris Fletcher was recognized on the Second Team.
“Chris and Chris really deserved these accolades,” said head coach David Macpherson. “Both were outstanding competitors for GW over not only this season but throughout their four years here, winning two A-10 Championships. This year they performed with incredible courage; our team was riddled with injuries so Chris and Chris, along with Christos Hadjigeorgiou and Jakub Behun, shouldered the heavy lifting and carried us to some significant victories. I am so honored to have coached such wonderful young men and wish them all the success going forward in their careers.”
Reynolds earns his third straight First Team honor after tallying a 10-17 solo mark and 3-3 record against A-10 opponents playing exclusively at the top two positions. In doubles play, the senior captain posted a notable 17-13 record with a 12-10 dual match mark to tie for first on the team, including a five-match win-streak to close the season. Reynolds was also named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
Fletcher earns postseason recognition for the fourth-consecutive year after posting a 13-16 singles record in his final season. The senior notched notable wins over Temple, Auburn, and Princeton in the fall and went on to go 4-2 against conference opponents in the spring, including wins over Richmond, George Mason, and Duquesne. In addition to concluding his career on a six-match win-streak, the Windsor, Ontario, native posted a 15-9 doubles record with a 10-7 dual match mark.
