Men’s Tennis’ Julius Tverijonas To Compete in Davis Cup

Sept. 14, 2017

Recent GW graduate Julius Tverijonas will represent his home nation of Lithuania as a member of its Davis Cup team this weekend at Bastad Tennis Stadium in Bastad, Sweden.

Playing in the third round of Europe/Africa Zone Group II, Tverijonas is set to make his 2017 Davis Cup debut this weekend against Elias and Mikael Ymer, Sweden’s top-two singles players. Lithuania previously defeated Madagascar (3-2) in the first round of the Davis Cup in February and edged Georgia (3-2) in round two in April. Day one of competition is set to begin on Friday at 10:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. ET), with day two starting at 1 p.m. (9:00 a.m. ET) and day three beginning at 10:30 a.m. (4:30 a.m. ET).

“Davis Cup is the pinnacle of team play in world tennis and to represent your country in Davis Cup is something very few players get to ever accomplish,” said head coach David Macpherson. “The coaching staff and the entire GW tennis family is extremely proud of Julius and wish him the very best.”

Though he didn’t get a chance to compete, Tverijonas was a member of Lithuania’s Davis Cup Team last July which defeated South Africa in Group II Europe/Africa play. That was the third time Tverijonas was a member of the team.
