GW Men's Tennis Sends Dias, Zelenkov to ITA All-American Championships
Colonials Duo to Compete in Singles and Doubles Qualifying Draws

WASHINGTON – George Washington men’s tennis junior Francisco Dias and sophomore Danil Zelenkov will begin play at the ITA All-American Championships on Monday in Tulsa, Okla. For the ninth straight year, the nine-day event is hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, running from Saturday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 6.
The tournament, which features the largest field of any collegiate tennis championship with more than 300 competitors, is comprised of three rounds of competition - pre-qualifying, qualifying and main draw.
Pre-qualifying matches kick off this weekend while the main draw is set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 3. Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships from Nov. 7 – 10 in Flushing, N.Y.
Dias – who earned a preseason No. 94 national singles ranking from the ITA – and Zelenkov will begin with singles and doubles qualifying rounds. The pair will have to win three successive singles matches and four consecutive doubles matches in order to reach the main draws.
“Francisco and Danil have both been playing great tennis and have learned a lot competing at this level,” said Head Coach Greg Munoz. “It is a long event with a lot of tough competition. We are excited to see them compete as individuals, but also as a doubles team for the first time.”
