Men’s Tennis Begins ITA Regional Play

Lynchburg, Va. – The George Washington men’s tennis squad wrapped the first day of the ITA Atlantic Region Championships on Friday evening at Liberty’s Cook Tennis Center and Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.

GW posted a 6-1 day in solo action, with sophomores Jakub Behun, William Tutecky, and Dennis Afanasev, and seniors Chris Fletcher, Chris Reynolds, and Christos Hadjigeorgiou all moving on in singles competition.

In doubles action, Fletcher and Hadjigeorgiou defeated A-10 foe Duquesne’s Dane Bendel and Adam Blasinsky in the tiebreaker, 8-7 (2), while Behun and Reynolds came out on top against Sebastian Quiros and Finbar Talcott of William & Mary, 8-3. Stafford and Tutecky battled hard, but ultimately fell to Liberty’s Eddie Gutierrez and Vince Salas in a tightly contested 8-6 match.

ITA Regional play will continue on Saturday with two rounds of doubles play and one round of singles.
