Borenstein Paces GW To Third-Place Finish at Mount St. Mary's Duals

EMMITSBURG, MD - The George Washington University men's cross country team opened their 2010 season on the campus of Mount St. Mary's College running strong for a third-place finish out of six competing schools in the 5K Duals.

Senior Zach Borenstein paced the Colonials with a 13th-place finish (out of 80) with a time of 16:04.34, bettering his course time last year by seven seconds. GW finished the duals with a 3-2 record, defeating Mount St. Mary's, St. Francis (PA) and Navy while falling to American and UMBC.

Sophomore David McCutcheon and freshman Daniel Kleine were impressive in their GW debuts finishing in 19th and 24th place, respectively. McCutcheon, a transfer student from Cal-Poly clocked in at 16:15.80 and Kleine finished in 16:19.65. Finishing between McCutcheon and Kleine was sophomore Alex Dadds who took 23rd place after running the course in 16:19.29, improving on his 2009 dual time by nearly 39 seconds.

On the women's side, senior Jessica Stern led the Colonials with a sixth-place finish after running the 5K course in 19:24.59. Junior Emily Foster took 30th place with a time of 21:42.57. The Colonials' finished in sixth place out of six competing schools.

Sophomore Julia Weir and sophomore Heather Stevens finished in 37th and 38th place, respectively, with times of 22:20.11 and 22:22.36. Junior Kyla Sommers finished in 45th place at 23:15.05 while senior Estelle Faulkner took 49th place with a time of 23:49.01.

 

 

The Colonials return to action September 18th at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, MD.
