WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2013 season on Friday afternoon at the Mount St. Mary's Duals in Emmitsburg, Md.

Friday marks GW's first appearance at the event since the 2011 season.

The men's 5,000-meter race begins at 1:00 p.m. followed by the women's 5K installment. The Colonials will be facing regional opponents Mount St. Mary's, American, Maryland and Navy in addition to Delaware.

The race will be scored in a dual-scoring format with each score receiving a dual-meet score against each of the other opponents.

On the men's side, American (4th, Mid-Atlantic) and Navy (7th, Mid-Atlantic) hold preseason regional rankings from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while Navy (6th, Mid-Atlantic), Maryland (12th, Mid-Atlantic) and Delaware (13th, Mid-Atlantic) are ranked on the women's side.

Last season, the Colonials' women's program achieved its first-ever USTFCCCA regional ranking of No. 15 in the Mid-Atlantic region late in the season.

Both the eight-member men's team and the 10-member women's team are under the direction of third-year head coach Terry Weir and assistant coach Ashley Campbell.
