Men's Track Breaks Two Records at Patriot Games
Conlon (5000m) and Shaffer (Mile) shatter two indoor marks
FAIRFAX, Va. - Two new indoor program records were set and a total of 13 new personal records were achieved as the George Washington men's track team enjoyed another successful outing at this weekend's Patriot Games at George Mason University.
The success started on Friday night when sophomore Jack Conlon finished second overall in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:05.56. The performance edged out the previous program record of 15:06.30 (Andrew Weber at the Navy Invitational in December) and led a trio of Colonials in the top ten of the event.
On Saturday it was senior Chris Shaffer's narrowly besting the previous program record in the mile. Shaffer logged a time of 4:11.94 to take second overall and beat the previous record, set by Colin Wills two weeks ago, by just under two seconds. Senior Carter Day (4th, 4:13.40) followed in the top ten with a new personal record.
GW's penultimate meet of the indoor season will take place on February 3 when the squad competes at the Villanova Invitational on Staten Island, N.Y.
