Cross Country Set for Saturday's Atlantic 10 Championship
Colonials return to Oatlands Plantation in pursuit of conference title
ON THE LINE: George Washington's men's and women's cross country programs will return to Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Virginia, on Saturday morning and compete for the Atlantic 10 Championship.
AT STAKE: Both programs are aiming for their first-ever team championship. The best-ever finish for the men's team was fourth place out of eight teams in 1993. The women's team will look to improve upon its best-ever finish of fifth place out of 14 teams in 2015.
SCHEDULE: The women's 5,000-meter race begins at 10:00 a.m. with the men's 8,000-meter installment following at approximately 10:50 a.m.
THE COURSE: Oatlands Plantation is a hilly course that will even the field from top to bottom and put all teams in contention for a championship.
SCORING FORMAT: Each team is permitted to enter 10 harriers into the race. The top five finishers will have their respective places count towards the team's total score. The sixth and seventh finishers on each team will not count towards the team score, but can be factored into the total score of any team that has its top five runners finish behind them.
TUNE IN: Both races will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Network, weather permitting. Click here to watch the stream on Saturday morning.
RETURN TO OATLANDS PLANTATION: A number of harriers from both the men's and women's team competed at the A-10 Championship course earlier this fall at the George Mason Invitational on September 30.
The men's team placed seventh out of 10 teams while the women's squad finished sixth out of eight teams.
REGIONALLY RANKED: The men's team enters the A-10 Championship with a regional ranking for the second consecutive season. The Colonials are currently ranked 11th in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll.
It marks the highest regional ranking in program history for the men's team.
