Cross Country Ready for NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional

LEADING OFF: George Washington's men's and women's cross country teams will line-up against the best in the region at Friday's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at the Blue and White Golf Courses on the campus of Penn State. The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the men's 10,000-meter race following at 1:00 p.m.
Both teams are looking top their best-ever team performances at NCAA Regionals. The men's team finished in 16th place last season while the women's team has finished in sixth place on three occasions (2015, 2004, 2002).
REGIONALLY RANKED: Both the men's and women's team have maintained regional rankings following the Atlantic 10 Championship.
The men's team enters Friday's race ranked No. 15 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, one of four A-10 teams ranked, while the women's squad is No. 13, one of just two A-10 teams ranked in the region.
CHANCE AT NATIONALS: The top two teams at each of the nine regionals around the country, along with thirteen additional at-large teams, will advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championship, November 19 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals per gender will be selected to compete at the NCAA Championship. The top four finishers at each regional that are not on a qualifying team are automatically selected (but must finish within the top 25 at the regional).
THE FIELD: Nationally-ranked teams in the women's field include No. 9 Penn State, No. 21 Villanova, No. 24 Penn and No. 27 West Virginia.
On the men's side, nationally-ranked opponents are No. 22 Georgetown and No. 28 Penn.
LAST TIME OUT: The women's team finished sixth out of 14 teams at the Atlantic 10 Championship at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virginia, on October 29. The Colonials were led by an All-Conference performance by senior Macualay Porter.
The men's team finished in 10th place, led by a 27th-place showing from junior Ryan DePinto.
PORTER'S RERUN: Porter earned her second career All-Conference honor in grand fashion, smashing her 5,000-meter personal record by 45 seconds, with a time of 17:38.40 to finish in 10th-place overall out of 131 competitors.
The Santa Monica, California, native had previously earned All-Conference honors in her sophomore season and is now the third harrier in program history to earn multiple All-Conference awards, joining Audrey Noonan (2006, 2007) and Megan Hogan (2008, 2009, 2010).
