Kathy Wilson is in her fifh season with the staff at GW after serving as an assistant coach for two seasons at Mississippi. Wilson assists Coach McKeown in all facets of the program, most notably in recruiting, player development and opponent scouting.
Noted for her passion for the game both as a player and as a coach, Wilson brings tremendous experience at the highest level of basketball to the GW program. Perhaps Wilson's most valuable commodity is her sincere interest and concern for the academic and athletic development of the players. At Ole Miss, Wilson was responsible for recruiting and equipment management, and was the team's liaison with the Academic Support staff. Wilson joined the staff at Ole Miss after coaching AAU basketball in Georgia for six years. She coached the Georgia Metros to a second place finish in the state and advanced to the national AAU tournament in five of her six seasons.
A 1988 graduate of North Carolina, Wilson was a standout player for the Tar Heels. She led UNC to a 73-47 record and three NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 1986. Wilson was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection in 1988, and ended her career with 1,551 career points and 741 career rebounds. She received an undergraduate degree in Radio, Television, and Motion Pictures from UNC in 1988. Wilson also played professionally in Australia for the Melbourne Tigers. In addition to playing for the Tigers, Wilson worked in the Public and Media Relations Office and was responsible for organizing sponsorship luncheons, serving as the team's spokesperson, and related public relations functions.
Wilson is the daughter of Joseph and Vivian Wilson of Marietta, Georgia. She resides in Arlington, VA with her husband Michael and daughter Elayna.
