NCAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
January 9, 2004

GW 58
UMass 52

GW Coach Joe McKeown
On GW's play down the stretch against Massachusetts:
"At the end, we made a lot of plays that we shouldn't have. We put them at the foul line a lot. Some of it was UMass. Some of it was us being out of position."

On positive things GW can take from the game:
"Liz Dancause was really the glue tonight. She was real solid out there. We need that from her. We made some hustle plays at the end, which was good. Sarah-Jo Lawrence played well, though she broke down a bit at the end, but our freshmen need to go through this. It's a growing experience for them."

On Anna Montañana reaching 1,000 career points:
"If she wanted to, she could score 2,000 points. When you look back on her four years, you realize how special a player she is. Especially with her numbers--rebounds, assists, steals. She's so unselfish. She'd rather make another player look better than score herself. That's what complete players do."

All-America candidate Anna Montañana
On scoring 1,000 career points:
"I didn't even know about it until they announced it during the time out. I just know that it wouldn't have happened without the help and support of my teammates."
