Women's Basketball Earns the Program's 500th Victory By Defeating Yale, 81-57
Williams Sets a Career High With 19 Points

NEW HAVEN, CT - George Washington women's basketball reached the 500 win plateau with an 81-57 victory over Yale on Monday, January 12. Senior Valerie Willaims (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Ft. Lauderdale) scored a career-high 19 points, while junior Anna Monta?ana (Valencia, Spain/St. Maria El Pilar) came up three assists shy of a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Colonials bounced back from a poor shooting night against Saint Joseph's to shoot 47 percent (35-74). Senior Cathy Joens added 18 points and eight rebounds to go along with five steals.
The Bulldogs hung tough early with the aid of six three-pointers and were down only one with six minutes left in the first half. But, GW took control behind an 18-7 run and went into the break with a 12-point lead.
GW turned their defense up a notch after the break and opened up a 30-point lead after a 23-5 run that took the fight out of the Bulldogs. GW cruised from that point on to secure number 500.
Next, the Colonials host Richmond in a key conference match-up at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16.
