BRONX, NY - Cathy Joens scored a career-high 35 points versus the Fordham Rams, leading the Colonials to their fifth-straight victory and a 4-0 record in Atlantic 10 Conference play,
GW (9-5, 4-0) led by as much as 12 in the first half, but FU (10-6, 1-3) used a 14-7 run over the final four minutes of the half to cut the Colonials' lead to four, 35-31. Joens led all scorers with 13 first half points and junior center Ugo Oha added 11 points.
The Colonials opened up the second half with a 16-4 run to take control of the game, extending the lead to a game-high16 points with 11:44 remaining in the game, 51-35. The Rams chipped away at GW's lead, cutting it to as little as six points, but the Colonials scored down the stretch to secure the 72-59 victory.
Along with Joens' 35 points on 9-16 shooting, Oha added 14 as the only other GW player in double figures. Mobolaji Akiode led the Rams in scoring with 31 points on 11-20 shooting.
The Colonials host Xavier on Sunday, Jan. 19, in an Atlantic 10 Television game at 12:00 p.m.
