Women's Basketball Downs Dukes, 74-59
PITTSBURGH, PA - (Jan. 24) - Cathy Joens scored 19 points in the first half to help George Washington take a 42-18 halftime lead over the Duquesne Dukes as the Colonials cruised to a 74-59 victory to remain undefeated in Atlantic 10 conference play.
GW (12-6, 7-0) capitalized on frigid shooting by DU who only made five field goals in the first half. The Dukes shot .192 (5-26) from the floor as the Colonials forced them into nine turnovers and held a 25-12 edge in rebounds at the break.
Junior guard Cathy Joens torched the nets for 19 points in the half on her way to a game-high 23 points, single-handedly outscoring the struggling Dukes. After both teams went scoreless in the first 3:20, GW rattled off a 17-4 run over the next five minutes to pull away for good.
The Dukes came out the break with the hot hand, going on a 16-6 run to pull within 14 points, 48-34 at the 14:28 mark. The Colonials regrouped and held DU at bay and extended their lead back to 25 points with 8:59 remaining in the contest.
The Dukes made a late rally to chip the lead down to 13 points with 21 seconds left on the clock as Coach McKeown cleared his bench in the final minute. Sophomore center Alexis Darling made a layup as time expired from a beautiful pass from freshman guard Kelly Wright as time expired to extend GW's lead back to 15 points.
Junior forward Erica Lawrence recorded a double-double with 10 boards and 14 points and junior guard Lindsey Davidson came off the bench to score 11 points, as the Colonials received a solid effort from the entire team. Freshman Greeba Outen Barlow scored a season and career-high eight points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists in only eight minutes of play.

DU (8-10, 3-4) was led by Candance Futrell who scored 20 points as the sole Duke in double figures.
The Colonials return home to host the University of Richmond at Smith Center on Sunday, Jan. 27, in a 1:00 p.m. game.
