Feb. 7, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials (15-6, 8-2), led by Kenan Cole's career night, sunk Saint Louis, 84-46 in the first-ever meeting with the Atlantic 10 newcomer. It was GW's 10th consecutive victory at home and moved them into a tie with No. 19 Temple for second place in the Atlantic 10. The Colonials scored 49 points in the first, their most in a half this season, winning by 38 to remain a perfect 6-0 after a loss. Cole scored 15 of her 20 points in the first half, during which GW hit five three-pointers en route to 49 points.
It took Cole only 11 seconds to score and she and the Colonials never looked back as the Billikens lost their 32nd straight road game. GW led the whole way and went on a 13-0 run before Saint Louis could score its second basket at the 13:16 mark of the first half. The Colonials ended the first half ahead by 28 points for the second time this season. GW shot 62-percent from the field and made five of eight attempts from behind the arc to tie their season high in the first half alone.
GW's 49 first half points was the most it had scored in a half all season. The last time the Colonials had scored more points in a half was last season against Yale when they had 53 in the first half. This year's game against Yale on December 20, 2005 had been the high-water mark for the Colonials offensive production until tonight. In addition to a halftime-high, GW made a season-best 32 field goals eight of which were three pointers, finishing with a 72.7-percent from three-point range. In addition to Kimberly Beck's two three-pointers, Cole, Sarah-Jo Lawrence and Lisa Steele all set career-highs with two threes each.
