NCAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
February 17, 2006

LaSalle 49
@ GW 67

Postgame comments

GW Coach Joe McKeown
Opening statement
"I thought we did really good defensively tonight. LaSalle is a team that gives everybody trouble because their post players can step out and shoot threes, they're mobile. They're one of those teams that can get hot and hang around, and give you a dogfight at the end. I thought we stepped up and played good defense in the second half."

Is the team gelling or do they need more work?
"I think we're adjusting to who we're playing; I'd rather make teams adjust to us. We're trying to change how we play based on our opponent. I don't think that's a good habit."

The next three games are against some of the best teams in the conference. Is this a good opportunity to boost your profile going into the NCAA tournament?
"Because we're so young, we can never take a peek ahead. We've been successful with this group by just focusing on the next game. In this case, it's Richmond, which is all we want because they just beat Temple and Charlotte. The game we had there was a dogfight, so I'm just concerned about Sunday. They are hitting their stride after adjusting to their new coach. They are a very dangerous team."

On double-doubles for Whitney Allen and Jazmine Adair
"Whitney's the heart and soul of our team with Kim Beck. She's a special person too. She'll do what it takes to win. She doesn't care if she starts or not, what position she plays. She played the number four position tonight. As for Jazmine, she's had her best week of practice this week. She sustained three days of high-intensity workouts, which is a big step for her. She did a great job tonight; we need her to play big on Sunday."

Is it possible for GW to do better than a 7 to 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament?
"A lot of that is how the committee looks at our league. We went out and played a tough non-conference schedule (with Tennessee, Texas, Purdue, and Villanova)...You have to get a little lucky. Some teams need to win their conference tournaments, which would help us. Temple last year went undefeated and was a six-seed. A lot of it is out of my hands. Going to the pods may help us [in the tournament]. That may allow us to play two games on a neutral floor. But a lot of things will have to happen for us to move up. We have to handle our own business in the Atlantic 10."

G Kim Beck
After four-straight wins, do you feel like you're gelling at the right time of the season?
"If there's any time to do it, it's at the end when we can go out with a bang and get ready for the A-10 tournament. That's what we're trying to do--get some wins and get ready for the tournament."

On surpassing 300 assists
"To be honest, I had no idea that I did that until the end of the game when people were yelling `300.' It's not anything that I've been thinking about. It's a great accomplishment, but I'm more concerned about winning championships with my teammates."

F Whitney Allen
Your next three games are against some of the A-10's toughest teams. Is it difficult to face them at the end of the season?
"We've played Richmond and Temple, and Charlotte is new. We're going to welcome them to the league. We just need to take it game-by-game and stay focused."

On her double-double
"I just went out to do what I normally do-try to crash, box out, play solid defense. Kim was getting me open looks, and I got put-backs. That's how I get my points."

C Jazmine Adair
On the transition to playing a lot of minutes as the season has gone on. "I've always been comfortable, but now it's easier because at first I didn't know what to expect from the rest of the team. Now, we mesh well together and things are going good."
