GW's Winning Streak Stops at 11 With a Loss at Duquesne, 77-60
Colonials Fall to 12-2 in the Atlantic 10
Feb. 22, 2004
PITTSBURGH, PA - Cathy Joens had a double-double and Anna Montanana scored 19 points, but it wasn't enough as George Washington's win streak was snapped by Duquesne, 77-60, on Sunday, February 22. The Colonials (19-6, 12-2) had won their last 11, but they couldn't overcome a three-point barrage from the Dukes (15-11, 10-5).
GW fell behind by nine early in the game at 18-9, and Duquesne was able to push the lead to 12 at halftime 35-23. The Colonials turned the ball over 13 times in the first half and made only nine of their 21 attempts from the field.
The Colonials cut the lead to six with 12:11 left, but were unable to get any closer thanks in large part to the Dukes hot shooting from three. Duquesne went 13-21 from behind the arc, which included seven in the second half. Candace Futrell led Duquesne with 28 points and 11 rebounds.
GW lost for the first time this season when outrebounding their opponent (35-33). They finished the game shooting 42 percent (24-57), while Duquesne shot 46 percent and 62 percent from the three-point line.
The Colonials will try and get back on track when they travel to Amherst to play Massachusetts on Thursday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m.
