FREEPORT, BAHAMAS - The George Washington women's basketball team's first-half lead disappeared following an injury to freshman point guard Danni Jackson and the Colonials struggled in her absence in a 78-47 loss to No. 25 Michigan State Friday at the Junkanoo Jam played at St. Georges High School in Freeport, Bahamas.

GW (2-2) opened the game with an 11-2 run and led 20-14 on Jackson's three-pointer midway through the half. However, Jackson sustained a broken leg while driving to the basket with 8:35 left in the half and Michigan State closed the period with an 18-8 run to lead 37-28 at the break.

The Colonials closed to 43-37 on freshman Nicole Shelton's layup at the 14:28 mark of the second half, but the Spartans scored 15 unanswered points over the next seven minutes to open a 21-point cushion. GW missed eight straight shots and had four turnovers during the momentum-turning 15-0 run. MSU led by as much as 35 points with less than a minute to play before free throws from Shipp and a layup from sophomore Kay-Kay Allums produced the 78-47 final.

Freshman Shi-Heria Shipp had a season-high 12 points and six steals to lead the Colonials. Allums and Jackson finished with seven points apiece.

GW converted just 6-of-29 field goals in the second half and shot 29.0 percent (18-62) for the game. MSU held a commanding 50-29 edge in rebounds and shot 51.5 percent (34-66). Jasmine Thomas led 12 Spartan scorers with 15 points.

The Colonials will play Marist in the Lucaya Division's consolation game tomorrow at 5:45 pm EST.
