GW Plays Saint Louis For First Time Tonight at 7PM

Feb. 6, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials (14-6, 7-2) and Saint Louis (5-15, 2-7) meet for the first time at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center tonight at 7:00 p.m. The Colonials, coming off of a loss at Xavier, have not lost two-straight games all season. Conversely, the Billikens, coming off of a 10-point win over La Salle, have yet to win consecutive games this season. Saint Louis has also not yet won on the road while the Colonials are riding a nine-game home winning streak.

GW is in third place in the Atlantic 10 behind Charlotte (9-1) and No. 20 Temple (8-2). The Colonials defeated then-No. 19 Temple at home by 17-points on January 11. Charlotte, along with Saint Louis, are the two newcomers to the Atlantic 10 and GW has never played either team before. GW does not take on Charlotte until the last regular season game of the season, which will be played at home on Sunday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Saint Louis is third from last in the Atlantic 10 and has the worst overall record in the conference. Even with the win, Saint Louis's RPI is 278th in the country with a strength of schedule of 212. GW drops from 31st to 47th in RPI while their strength of schedule is now the 50th toughest in the country. In both national polls this past week, the Colonials were No. 27 in the country.

This is GW's first home game since beating Fordham at Smith Center on January 27th and only the second home game in the team's last six contests. GW has not lost at home in the last two months, since hosting then-No. 1 Tennessee on December 7, 2005. After playing host to Saint Louis, the Colonials take to the road with two games next weekend. GW travels to Duquesne on Friday at 7:05 p.m. followed by a trip to St. Bonaventure on Sunday at noon.
