WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington and La Salle take to the court at 7:00p.m. tonight at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. The Colonials (17-6, 10-2) are on a three-game winning streak and have won their last 10 games at home. The Explorers (11-12, 7-5) have a losing record overall but were actually in first place in the Atlantic 10 after the Colonials first conference loss earlier in the year. GW is now in second place in the Atlantic 10 after Richmond defeated No. 23/22 Temple last Sunday. La Salle is tied for sixth place in the conference with Dayton who the Explorers beat last Friday.
The Colonials split games with the Explorers last year, losing to La Salle for the first time since their first meeting in 1981. Between their two losses at La Salle, the Colonials had run off 24 consecutive victories and are 25-2 all time and 11-0 at home.
This past weekend the Colonials had two wins on the road beating St. Bonaventure by 21 points on Sunday and defeating Duquesne by seven points on Friday. La Salle split their weekend games with a loss on Sunday to Xavier after beating Dayton on Friday. La Salle and Dayton are now tied for sixth place in the Atlantic 10.
The Colonials remain home for Sunday's game when they take on Richmond in an A-10 TV game (which can be seen on ESPN Full Court) at noon. GW then plays No. 23/22 Temple on the road next Friday before concluding the regular season as host to Charlotte. GW and Charlotte have never faced each other and the 49ers have a one-game lead in the Atlantic 10 standings. Even if the Colonials trail Charlotte by a game going into the game, a GW win would also prove to be the first tie-breaker which is head-to-head record.
