No. 9/9 GW (24-2, 13-0 A-10) vs. Temple (23-5, 13-0 A-10)
Feb. 24, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC - The No. 9/9 George Washington women's basketball team hosts Atlantic 10 rival Temple at the Smith Center on Sunday in a game which will decide the league's regular-season champion. The game will be televised by CSTV and tip-off at 2:06 pm.
No. 9/9 GW (24-2, 13-0 A-10) will recognize the team's lone senior, guard/forward Kenan Cole, prior to the start of Sunday's battle. The Colonials will look to extend their 17-game overall winning streak and 13-game Smith Center winning streak. GW trounced Saint Joseph's 87-60 on Friday night to remain undefeated in A-10 play.
Temple (23-5, 13-0 A-10), which is receiving votes in both national polls, has won eight consecutive games and 19 of its last 20. The Owls won at Duquesne 72-43 on Friday to improve to 13-0 in the league.
Sunday's showdown will determine the No. 1 seed for next week's Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held at Xavier's Cintas Center from March 2-5. Both GW and Temple have secured first-round byes for next week's tournament and will look to become just the fifth team to finish a conference season unbeaten.
The Colonials have won 25 of the last 29 series meetings, but the Owls have won three of the last five, most recently a 59-54 win in the 2006 A-10 Championship Final. GW won both regular-season meetings last year, including an epic 55-50 overtime win at Temple, which gave the Colonials the opportunity to play for the league's regular-season title and No. 1 seed and marked head coach Joe McKeown's 450th career victory.
