GW Faces Charlotte for the First Time Today at 2PM at Smith Center for a Share of the A-10 Regular Season Title

Feb. 26, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Colonials (19-7, 12-3) play the Charlotte 49ers (20-6, 13-2) for the first time ever at Smith Center at 2:00 p.m. today. The winner of the game will get the No. 1 seed in next week's Atlantic 10 Tournament as this game concludes the regular season and celebrates Jessica Simmonds on Senior Day.

A Colonials victory would give GW a share of the Atlantic 10 regular season title as both teams would finish with 20 victories. This would be the Colonials seventh-straight 20-win season and would be coach Joe McKeown's 15th season with 20 wins out of his last 16 seasons at GW. McKeown earned his 450th career victory on Friday in Philadelphia when the Colonials upset No. 17 Temple, 55-50, in overtime to secure at least second place in the Atlantic 10.

This is the first-ever meeting with Charlotte who joined the Atlantic 10 this season. Both teams have secured a bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament which starts on Friday at Saint Joseph's. Whoever wins today will be the No. 1 seed and would play the winner of the No. 8/9 game at noon on Saturday. If GW loses they would finish no worse than the No. 2 seed in the tournament and would play the winner of the No. 7/10 game at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
