Kenan Cole Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team

Feb. 27, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University senior women's basketball player Kenan Cole has been selected an ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-American as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

Cole is the women's basketball program's second Academic All-America first team selection and first since Kathy Marshall received the award as a senior in 1985. Former women's basketball stars Jennifer Shasky '93, Kristin McArdle '92 and Colleen McCrea '97 were named to the District II first team during their careers, with Shasky earning national second team honors in 1993. Cole was a second team Academic All-District II pick as a sophomore, has been on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for seven consecutive semesters and was named to the league's Academic All-Conference team last season.

A mechancial engineering major, Cole is averaging 11.1 points and 4.9 rebounds for No. 8 GW, which wrapped up an undefeated Atlantic 10 regular season on Sunday and is 25-2 overall entering this weekend's A-10 Championship in Cincinnati, OH. Cole ranks sixth in the league in three-point field goal percentage at 40.5 percent (34-of-84), while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 92.2 percent at the free throw line.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Cole was among 42 first team Academic All-District award winners eligible for the national ballot.
