March 6, 2003

George Washington women's basketball will face West No. 5 seed Duquesne in a quarterfinal game of the Atlantic 10 Tournament in Kingston, RI on Friday, March 7, at noon.

GW (21-6), the number one seed in the West Division, received a first-round bye and will play DU (15-13) who topped Fordham in their opening round game, 60-52. The Colonials and Dukes have met twice this season with GW winning both games. GW also holds a 39-4 series record versus DU, with a 5-1 record in tournament play.

In other tournament action, West No. 3 seeded Richmond topped East No. 6 seed St. Bonaventure 58-43 to advance to face East No. 2 seed Temple in the quarterfinals. Host institution Rhode Island christened their new home court the Ryan Center with an upset victory over West No. 4 seeded Dayton, 62-57. URI, the East No. 5 seed, advances to face East No. 1 seed Saint Joseph's in the next round.

West No. 6 La Salle pulled the third, and perhaps largest upset of the day, with a 67-62 victory over East No. 3 seed Massachusetts. La Salle meets West No. 2 seed Xavier in the quarterfinals.
