ATLANTA, GA - George Washington senior guard Kimberly Beck was named one of 40 finalists for the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Monday.
Beck, who last week was included among 52 regional finalists for the WBCA All-America Team, will seek to become the third GW women's basketball player to earn the national award after Cathy Joens ('04) and Anna Montanana ('05) garnered honorable mention honors in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
Beck also looks to join Tajama Abraham ('97), Darlene Saar ('95) and Noelia Gomez ('99) as Colonials' players to twice be named All-Americans. Beck became the seventh player in school history to earn All-America honors with an honorable mention selection from the Associated Press last season.
The 2008 A-10 Player of the Year, Beck became just the second player in league history and 11th player in NCAA Division I history to lead her conference in assists four consecutive seasons after averaging 6.3 assists for the Colonials this season. Beck, who earned first team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team honors for the third straight year, adds 12.8 points per game for No. 20/16 GW (27-6), which advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and fourth time overall with a thrilling 55-53 victory over No. 3-seed Cal at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, CA, Monday night.
A two-time final nominee for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which recognizes the nation's top point guard, Beck ranks third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio and is the only player in Division I women's basketball history with at least 1,300 points, 700 assists, 300 rebounds, 200 steals and 60 blocks in her career.
