Montañana to Participate in Pre-Draft Camp

March 30, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - In preparation for the upcoming Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft, senior Anna Montañana will take part in the league's pre-draft camp to be held at the New York Liberty's training facility in Rye, NY from April 8-10.

Montañana, who was recently named one of the 48 finalists for the WBCA/Kodak Division I All-America Team, will participate in the camp with approximately 40 of the other top draft prospects from around the country and overseas.

Montañana averaged 16.7 points per game and grabbed 6.8 rebounds per outing, helping the 2004-05 Colonials advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and a share of the Atlantic 10 West Division title. Montañana's point production increased steadily during her four years at GW and she finished her career 12th on the Colonials' career scoring list with 1,332 points. She ended her tenure in Buff and Blue ranked in the top 10 in career rebounds, assists, three's, and free-throw percentage.

If she is selected, Montañana would be the third Colonial in the last two years to be drafted into the pros. In last year's draft, Ugo Oha was chosen with the 24th overall pick by the Connecticut Sun and Cathy Joens was picked by the Liberty with the 30th overall choice.

The 2005 edition with the WNBA Draft will take place on Saturday, April 16 at the NBA Entertainment Studios in Seacaucus, NJ. ESPN2 will televise the first round of the draft live with NBATV providing live coverage of the second and third rounds.
