GW Women's Basketball Ranked No. 11 in Final Coaches' Poll

April 4, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's basketball team capped its finest season in program history with a No. 11 national ranking in the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Top 25 poll released Wednesday.

GW, which tied the school-record with 28 victories and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 for the first time since 1997, climbed two spots from its final regular-season rank of 13th. The No. 11 final ranking is the second highest in program history, just behind the No. 10 final ranking from the 1996-97 season in which GW advanced to the Elite Eight. The Colonials' four losses tied for the third fewest in Division I basketball this season.

GW's 28-4 final record was the best, in terms of winning percentage, in school history. 2006-07 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Joe McKeown led the Colonials to their sixth straight regular-season league crown, 16th 20-win season and 14th NCAA Tournament appearance.
