Cole, Lawrence Named to Division I-AAA Athletic Directors' Scholar-Athlete Team

April 6, 2007

CLEVELAND, OH - George Washington women's basketball senior Kenan Cole and junior Sarah-Jo Lawrence have been selected to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team as announced by the organization on Friday.

After earning CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team honors in February, both Cole and Lawrence were one of 10 women's basketball players chosen for the Division I-AAA AD's scholar-athlete award. Division I-AAA is comprised of all Division I institutions that do not sponsor football. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve with legitimate athletics credentials and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00.

Cole, a first team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection this season, concluded her four-year career at GW with 856 points, 409 rebounds, 153 assists and 70 three-pointers in 116 games played. She was a third team All-Atlantic 10 pick after averaging a career-best 10.8 ppg on 43.6 percent (44-of-101) three-point shooting. Cole's 90.7 percent (49-of-54) rate at the free throw line this winter set a new school record, topping Tracey Earley's 86.4 percent clip during the 1985-86 season.

Lawrence is just 62 points shy of eclipsing the career 1,000-point barrier with a year of eligibility remaining. A second team All-Atlantic 10 performer this season, Lawrence paced the Colonials in scoring at 13.4 ppg on 46.0 percent (171-of-372) shooting from the floor. She also added 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game, good for 13th and fifth in the A-10, respectively.
