Montañana Named WBCA/Kodak Honorable Mention All-American

April 13, 2005

ATLANTA, GA - Senior Anna Montañana was selected as an honorable mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Kodak. The WBCA/Kodak All-America Team and its honorable mention choices were picked by a committee representing the eight WBCA geographical regions at the Final Four in Indianapolis, IN.

Montañana, along with 37 other women's college basketball stars, earned honorable mention honors. Steffanie Blackmon of the national champion Baylor Lady Bears, Shyra Ely of Tennessee, Cappie Pondexter of Rutgers, and Ivory Latta of North Carolina are just a few of players that were also recognized with honorable mention accolades.

Montañana averaged 16.7 points per game and grabbed 6.8 rebounds per outing, helping the 2004-05 Colonials advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and a share of the Atlantic 10 West Division title. Montañana's point production increased steadily during her four years at GW and she finished her career 12th on the Colonials' career scoring list with 1,332 points. She ended her tenure in Buff and Blue ranked in the top 10 in career rebounds, assists, three's, and free-throw percentage.

It is the second straight year GW has had a player receive WBCA/Kodak All-America honors and she is the fifth Colonial in team history to receive All-America recognition from the organization.

Montañana has made herself available for the 2005 WNBA Draft, which will take place on Saturday, April 16 at the National Basketball Association (NBA) Entertainment Studios in Secaucus, NJ.
