George Washington Women's Basketball Earns a No. 25 Ranking in Season-Ending Poll

April 14, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's basketball team received a season-ending ranking of No. 25 in the 18th and final week of the ESPN Coaches' Poll. The Colonials, who finished the season 23-9, were previously ranked No. 25 by the Coaches' Poll and the Associated Press Poll on January 17. This season, Colonials made the NCAA for the fourth consecutive year and advanced to the Second Round for the third time during that span.

The Colonials 2005-06 campaign ended on March 21 with a 66-53 loss to Tennessee in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in Norfolk, VA. Just two days earlier, George Washington, a seven-seed in the tournament, defeated Old Dominion on its home court with a resounding, 87-72, victory despite playing in front of a hostile crowd. The Colonials have made the NCAA Tournament in 13 of the 16 years of GW Head Coach Joe McKeown's tenure at GW.

The Colonials finished the regular season as Co-Champions of the Atlantic 10 with a 13-3 conference record. The Colonials advanced to the A-10 Championship game with victories over Richmond and tournament host Saint Joseph's. The Colonials faced then-No. 18 Temple in the Championship but could not defeat the Owls for a third straight time this season, falling 59-54. The Owls, joined the NCAA field as a No. 6 seed but were upset by No. 11 Hartford on Sunday in Trenton, NJ making the Colonials the farthest advancing A-10 team in this year's NCAA Tournament.
