Beck, Joens Make Season Debuts in WNBA

May 19, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - Former George Washington women's basketball All-Americans Kimberly Beck and Cathy Joens made their 2008 season debuts in the WNBA this weekend. Beck's Seattle Storm squad topped Joens and the Chicago Sky, 67-61, in Seattle, WA, Saturday night.

Beck, who made the final roster Friday after being chosen 36th overall by the Storm in last month's WNBA Draft, didn't record a statistic in the final 2:16 of Seattle's victory. Beck, one of four two-time All-Americans in GW women's basketball history, will play behind WNBA All-Star Sue Bird at point guard.

Joens, who joined Chicago earlier this month after averaging 15.7 points for Spanish club Rivas Futura in Madrid this winter, missed her only field-goal attempt in six minutes of action. The two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and 2004 honorable mention All-American averaged 4.8 points and 13.9 minutes in 20 games with the Sky in 2007.

Beck returns to the District Sunday, July 20, when the Storm visit the Washington Mystics at Verizon Center. Chicago travels to face Washington Friday, August 29.
