June 1, 2004

Recent George Washington University women's basketball players, Cathy Joens and Ugo Oha, were both selected in the 2004 WNBA Draft. Unfortunately, both were let go by the start of the regular season. Joens, the 30th selection by the New York Liberty, was waived on May 19 as the Liberty made their final cuts before the start of the regular season. Joens is currently working out in her native California and hopes to be picked up by a WNBA team during the season.

Oha, the 26th pick of the Connecticut Sun, was waived one day before Joens, but Oha will have a busy summer regardless. She was selected to play on the Nigerian National Team and will travel to the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics in August. The Nigerians will play in Group A along with Greece (Host), Australia (the 2000 silver medalists), Japan (Asian Championships runner-up), and Russia (European Champion).
