WASHINGTON, DC - Former George Washington women's basketball performer Anna Montañana scored 13.5 points per game and averaged 5.5 rebounds per outing to help Spain to the bronze medal in the 2005 Mediterranean Games, which were held from June 24-July 1 in Almeria, Spain. Montañana shot 51.2 percent (21-41) from the field for the four games and made 3-of-5 three-point attempts.
A two-time first-team all-conference selection for the Colonials, Montañana tallied 15 points and grabbed six boards to help Spain to a, 69-62, tournament-opening triumph versus France on June 26. She also netted 15 points versus Turkey two days later, but it wasn't enough as Spain lost its final contest in pool play, 74-65.
In the tournament semifinal against Croatia on June 30, Montañana scored 12 points in an 85-65 loss to the Croatians. The following day she hung 12 points on Greece in the bronze-medal game to help Spain to a 68-51 decision and a third-place finish in the six-team competition.
Montañana graduated from GW in May with a degree in international business. She helped the Colonials to a 23-9 overall record in 2004-05 and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Montañana averaged led the team in scoring last season at 16.7 points per game and earned WBCA/Kodak Honorable Mention All-America honors.
