Chantelle John on Canada's Junior National Team

George Washington incoming freshman Chantelle John was named to Canada's Junior Women's (U-19) National Team earlier this year. The team recently competed in a pre-FIBA World Championship series in France where it posted a 1-2 record.

Canada knocked off Tunisa before losing to China and France. The French team recorded the best record in the series, going 3-0.

Canada will open the 2005 FIBA World Championship in Nabeul, Tunisa against the host Tunisians on July 15.

John, who attended The Stoneleigh-Burnham School, a prep institution in Greenfield, MA, was a member of the junior national team last year and helped the squad qualify for the FIBA U-19 World Championship for the first time. She averaged 7.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in last year's qualification tournament and had a team-best 13 rebounds in Canada's bronze-medal victory over Brazil.

At Stoneleigh-Burnham, John averaged 14.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game in her senior year and was a 2005 New England Preparatory Council "A" All-Star. In her final year at Agincourt, she was named to the Toronto Sun Second Team and the Toronto Star All-City Team.

Other members of the Junior Women's National Team include Alisha Tatham of A-10 foe Massachusetts and Michigan's Stephany Skrba.
