Women's Hoops Names Captains for 2017-18 Season
Cummings, Tapias and Bautista tapped to lead Colonials this season
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's basketball head coach Jennifer Rizzotti has named senior Brianna Cummings and Camila Tapias, as well as junior Mei-Lyn Bautista, as the team's captains for the 2017-18 season.
The trio was voted on by their teammates with additional oversight being provided by Rizzotti and her coaching staff.
"I have been very impressed with how committed all of our upperclassmen have been this offseason to their overall fitness and dedication to team chemistry and accountability," said Rizzotti. "Cami, Bri and Mei-Lyn in particular have always been three of the hardest-working players since they've arrived and they are now poised to take much bigger vocal leadership roles with this year's team. They have the credibility, they are respected and they have certainly earned it with all of their actions on and off the court. I am proud to name them this year's team captains."
The experienced trio has combined to appear in 204 games over the past three seasons and will be tasked with leading the Colonials as the team aims to win its fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 regular-season title and return to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the past four seasons.
GW opens the 2017-18 season on Friday, November 10 at Princeton before playing its home opener on Sunday, November 12 against South Dakota State at the Charles E. Smith Center.
